new pornographers

i have loved this band ever since i first heard them, but i had no idea how amazing they'd be live. not only do they have a fun, laid-back stage presence, but they sound even better in person. yay new porn!!

if i knew how to link to sound clips i would do that, but in the meantime this is their second album and it rules. this is their latest, and you can download a good song here.

i think my favorite favorite is all for swinging you around (which they played) but it's so hard to pick just one. ok, time to go buy all of neko case's albums.

CAMP (Campaign Against Marijuana Planting)

wow. i just caught this article under a yahoo headline of "Drug agents can't keep up with pot growers." my favorite part is where they blame the mexicans. that's how we got into this whole failed drug war mess anyway, particularly when it comes to pot. some capitalist with some power decides to pad his own pockets by making marijuana illegal and blames the mexicans.

we're doomed

i was totally going to write a post about my first day of work, but then i started watching our president in a live news conference. wow. he has perfected the art of not even remotely answering a given question. it's impressive! he's even deflecting what seem to be "tougher" follow up questions. and he alternates not answering questions with speaking in a weird, condescending tone and giving a weird look that might be his attempt at a smile, perhaps to "[dis]connect with the people."

he thinks there's something healing about a society where people have ownership. um, how do people acquire ownership again? oh, oh, i know. they buy it. with money. that THEY DON'T HAVE.

now he just pulled an um-kay. perhaps he's been relaxing to south park lately.

i'm curious how bush chooses who will ask the next question. i really hope they weren't all submitted in advance.

as for first day of work, i'm going to stick to "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all."

seriously, it's not that bad. it's just hard when you're being compared to doing anything you want at any time, with most of these things being fun-related.
