tuesday night tourney

i made it to the final three tables again, but still no dice. normally i get stuck when the blinds get high and don't play aggressively enough, but last night was a little different.

so the first hour was painful. i was completely card dead. i mean, scary dead. not even suited cards. not even A high. well, that's not true. i finally got an AJ suited and threw my money in the pot, only to get called by another AJ suited and we split. grrrr. this one guy at my table, clyde, was getting INSANE cards. i saw him win pots w/ AK four times in the first hour, once he had A9 and flopped two pair, and he turned over a couple pocket pairs for wins also. the crazy thing about my cards was it wasn't like normal, where i fold K9 (not that i was even getting that good a hand) and then the flop comes KK9. i mean, nothing i folded even hit.

i was down to 250 on the last hand of rebuys, and i thought about not even rebuying given my horrible luck, but shoved in with Q2 suited (against AJ and AK). normally the last hand of rebuys people go in w/ shit --- of course not the one time i do it. so i lost, and rebought, then i slowly built my way back up. i doubled up on a hand i wish i could remember, up to 1k, then my bb of64 spades flopped two pair (J64 with two clubs), i went all in, and a guy, one of the pokernews posse, and after a loooooong deliberation, called me w/ QJ. my hand held up and i was on my way. coincidentally, the only reason i know he's from pokernews is b/c these guys all wear these hooded sweatshirts every week. when i left, there were five of them (5!!) at one table. the sweatshirts look comfortable, but they also looked super cheesy when there were five at one table.

after that got some sweet cards (AQo, AQs, JJ), no callers, but picked up close to 1k in blinds. lost a coinflip when i was bb andeveryone folded to button, who went all in for 820 (bb was 200) i called with fours, he had KJ off and he doubled up. then i switched tables and it all went downhill.

i was probably a medium stack at my table, with maybe one real small stack. the blinds were 150/300, and i probably had about 2400.

my first hand there's a raise in early position to 700, i went over the top w/ AJ suited and got called by KK, QQ and the original raiser who had A7. overall i don't think it was a horrible play, but even with the raiser being weak, i think it shoulda been an easy fold. too many people behind me, and i didn't need to make a move then. i was just trying to pick up the pot, and def didn't count on those killer pocket pairs behind me. had about 1k left after that, picked up jacks, went all in and was up against A10 and 55, flop came A56 and it was over.

but, considering how bad the cards were in the beginning i was pretty impressed w/ my ability to make it to the final 3 tables yet again. i'm honestly not sure what i need to do. folding that AJ might have been good, but my m was going down, and the cards were among the best i got all night. i would guess there's a good chance i would have lost most of it anyway w/ the jacks.

incidentally, pocket five guy is an american from la who has lived in a'dam for 18 years. he was at my first table but i didn't even realize he was american b/c he speaks dutch w/ a flawless (to my inexperienced ears) accent, and fluently. i left shortly after i busted out, but hoping he made it to the final table.
