bad blogger

i've been a horrible blogger of late. i still have a draft of a vegas recap (lol) that maybe one day i'll get around to posting, only three months late!

i'm excited for the mookie tonight. i really hope we can get 80 people, so at least waffles has the illusion of hope. :-)

i haven't been playing as much poker these days, though i still get on for a tournament or two a day. i even ended up at a table w/ katiemother last night, who said in the chat that her daughter was in the hospital for the past month!?! i know i've been almost as bad a blog reader as poster lately, so i def missed that. thoughts and prayers are with you, hopefully she's doing better.

i played four or five wcoop events quite shittily, so that was a bust. i did win a seat to the main event, but cashed out most of it and used some of the w$ to play the second chance, where i busted w/ 99 v. KK a few hours in.

mostly i'm psyched for sf this weekend. sad to be missing the bash, but really excited to see some of my closest friends from college (one of whom is having a party sat night, w00t) and can't wait to meet famed wife and daughter of e-friend bayne. hopefully they won't have too horrible a time hanging out at the giants/dodgers game w/ me and some friends. i have a reservation for one of my fave restaurants in the world, gary danko, even though lucko, who hates seafood, will probably not be an uber fan. i figure it's part of my belated birthday weekend, so i'll drag him just this once. :-D

are any bloggers in the bay area besides bayne?? good luck tonight at mookie to everyone but waffles. was sad to see mookie lose last week (so close!) but maybe he'll close out a win tonight!

boooo poker

poker has been brutal for me the past couple of weeks. my cashes have been few and very far between, and also very small. my roi is probably the worst i've ever had in a month, and i'm definitely not having fun. i know i'm running badly (why can't AQ ever beat AT?) but i think i'm pushing marginal edges in spots where i don't need to as a result, and taking flips when i can afford to wait to have a bigger edge. it doesn't help that i can't win a flip, unless it is v. a shortie and means nothing. i'm still playing, but trying to play lower buy ins until i get my confidence back.

mets game got rained out friday, which sucked. that's two in a row. saturday was a chill day. i decided to play saturdays w/ dr pauly as a diversion before meeting friends for dinner, and somehow made it to the final table. had to leave my big stack, though, and ended up being the bubble girl. dinner was ok, we hit up a ~ touristy place near rockefeller center, but lisa lampanelli was funny. there are definitely a few things she says that i feel bad laughing at, but overall a good show. here's a link, i haven't watched it, but i'm guessing it gives a good example of her humor.

yesterday i just watched football, drank a few beers, and hung out w/ friends. i thought at the start of wcoop i might try the 1k event, but i'm not feeling large buy in events right now at all. i've had plenty of time to play the wii balance games, and i'm happy to report i almost got down the slalom and snowboarding ones. i also moved on to advanced heading, yay! anyway, blah blah. not much to write about, life is good, poker not so much.

no more tivo w00t

i finally bit the bullet after tivo wouldn't let me upgrade my damaged tivo to an hd box with my lifetime subscription and am now the proud owner of a time warner hd-dvr. it will definitely take some getting used to, but so psyched to be able to watch football and not have to miss gossip girl. apparently the cw is streaming episodes, so i've got to check that out before next monday.

i was super excited for fringe tonight, but if it wasn't jj abrams i would have turned it off about 45 minutes in.

so disappointing. joshua jackson is sci fi pacey 2008 and the line readings sound so forced. if she wasn't still on without a trace i would wonder if poppy montgomery was playing the lead role. the second half seemed way better than the first, but i also paid it less attention. i'll watch the second ep but not sure i'll make it to week 3.

side note -- if i see one more preview for lakeview terrace i'm gonna puke. i wanted to see it at first, but i'm so sick of being bombarded me w/ the trailer that i may boycott it as a response to their marketing campaign. i'm a bit more intrigued by eagle eye, and i'll admit -- i wanna see the house bunny.

i just watched a cheesy show called privilege that is trying to capitalize on a gossip girl type fan base, and it's typical teenybopper soap opera shit that i love. the lead actress is weirdly compelling and i think the acting might be better than on fringe.

poker has me steaming. it seems like i'm building up a big stack in practically every tournament i play, and then late in the tournament losing a bit pot with a flip, running a big pair into a bigger pair, or getting it in as a favorite and losing anyway. don't get me wrong, i have my share of retardastic suckouts along the way, but i can't win late no matter how far ahead i am. also running badly in stars hyper turbos, but i expect that kind of variance. i bubbled the razz skillz game tonight, which was cool.

mookie
tomorrow, i plan on playing.

sunday meh

good weekend, terrible sunday. got completely owned by a friend in one ff league, santonio holmes needs to get his shit together imo. i also did not expect great things from the seattle d, but did not expect them to suck quite so badly. i thought about taking brady in first round of draft last week, thanks to bayne and lucko for independently telling me how bad of an idea they thought that was.

i played a lot of five card draw hyper turbo sats on friday and went something like 5/6, despite having played the game once when i was 15 or thereabouts. sadly the last one ended too late for me to unregister, so i played, and came pretty close to cashing. oh well. so far wcoop has not gone well for me. i went out of the six max one very very early, and couldn't get anything going in the sunday one either. i also played two of the hyper turbos and in one went out w/ 88 to AQ and in the other my AJ lost to A9 all in pre.

the theme of sunday was losing flips. as in, i don't think i won one flip all day and i'm not exaggerating. it was frustrating, but i've had many tournaments where they fall my way, or when i lose i'm still in decent shape, so hard to be too upset. still, it would be nice to run good on a sunday sometime.

i am in the lead in my three other ff leagues, but will need adrian peterson to have a good game to win one, where i am ahead by 7 and my opponent has minnesota d and selvin young left to play. sadly, in another league where we hold a 20 something point lead i am up against ap and ryan grant ftw, so it's a double edged sword. in my last league i'm up by about 20 with three players left for my opponent, while i have only donald driver left. i'd def like to pull out a win in that one, since my opponent sent me a text on friday apologizing in advance for how badly his team was going to own mine.

i've been exercising non-existent br management for the past week, and it looks like it's going to continue through wcoop. i have withdrawn a decent amount off of both sites recently, so while my balance is nowhere near as high as it once was, i still have enough to take shots at higher buy in/silly tournaments. i realized that i have turned into a degen when, in order to de-tilt from a bad loss in wcoop 1, i decided to play a $55 five card draw sat. as i mentioned earlier, i have played that game once in the past 20 years (drunken video poker being the exception, but that's a little diff anyway).

aside from running badly the last couple of days i'm feeling good about my game, and when i play smart and don't make stupid calls/plays that i know in my gut are wrong, i do well. winning flips would be helpful, since that's how i lost big pots in the 40k, 750k, and a few other tournaments. also, if AQ could beat AT and AJ could beat A9 that would be super sweet. :-) i have considered possibility that not working out over w/e could be reason for inability to win flips, so obv hit the gym today.

aside from poker weekend was fun. i finally saw goodfellas and thought it was fine, but not worthy of the massive hype, top 10 movie of all time, etc. didn't find time for cache or the namesake, but i may try to watch one tonight after football. played some ping pong and owned until i lost an earring (thankfully found). watched notre dame football since the mets game got rained out, but didn't head out to shea for the make up b/c boyfriend wanted to watch the jets pwn miami. also squeezed in brunch w/ the 'rents at a good new restaurant (perilla).

i missed the season premiere of gossip girl last week, so i'm super psyched to watch tonight. need to call the cable company and get myself an hd cable box, b/c i'm sick of only being able to watch one program at a time. ok, done rambling. happy monday!

pop culture

first on a poker note, congrats to evy on her 20k score (5th place) at the borgata in event #1. so awesome!!

occasionally i spend time doing things other than playing poker (shocking, i know). i've been trying to catch up on pop culture in time for the new tv season, and it's been fun.

people have been recommending the kite runner to me for ages, but i didn't know what it was about, and what little i knew did not sound appealing. a friend gave it to me for my bday, and i finally picked it up. i read it almost non stop for a couple days, with the exception of subway rides, b/c tears started streaming down my face and i felt like an idiot. anyway, it's good. check it out. it's a really rich story about boys growing up in afghanistan and weaves together themes of family and honor and love and other good stuff.

i'm about halfway through eat pray love, another best seller that i put off reading. i love (LOVE!) the author's style. this woman went through a nasty divorce and an intense rebound, then set off for a year, spending four months in italy, four in india and four in indonesia. she writes in the first person about her semi-spiritual journey through the places and it's def not as self-helpy as i first thought it would be from the book jacket.

i watched a weird horror movie the other night, then watched it again last night during the 1r and it really grew on me. it's called turistas, i have no idea what kind of theater release it got, but it's got olivia wilde in it, from the oc and house. she plays one of a group of americans stranded in brazil after their bus breaks down. cheesy (obv) but good stuff.

also watched the invasion, the nicole kidman/body snatchers movie, and it was a fine distraction but nothing special.

i re-joined netflix so i could finish the wire season 5, finally, and it was worth it. i think seasons 3 and 4 are still my faves, but it was good, and i liked the way they ended it. i won't write more b/c i cling to the hope that all you non-watchers out there will rise up and rent the wire, and i don't want to spoil anything.

next on my queue is cache, a french suspense movie that i've been wanting to see for ages, and the closet, also french, about a guy who works in a condom factory and is worried about losing his job, so he pretends to be gay. i haven't seen it in a few years, and hope it's as good as i remember.

i've been playing madden, mostly with my franchise team, which won it's first game easily. :-) this w/e will be more of a test probably. i also got mario kart, and have played that a bit. i have to limit my time on the wii due to tendinitis, but still finding time for wii fit. those balance games are so much fun!

and how bout those giants??? booooooooooooooooooooooom. spent my night watching the game and acting as a wingman for a friend -- not sure how good a wingman i was, though, since i left her in the hands of a republican. :-)

i'm super psyched for new tv, even though the good shit like lost and bsg isn't gonna be on for ages. something fucked up w/ my tivo while i was away for the weekend and the season premiere of gossip girl didn't record. :-( i also missed the new bev hills 90210, but i figure if it's worth checking out i can start late (how bad can any show w/ jessica walter be though, really). i missed a few eps of 30 rock from last year, so hoping i get a chance to watch the rest before the new season starts. that show is so great it's hard for me to believe it's back for a 3rd season.

i'll prob give chuck another shot this season, since i thought it was decent and i'm gonna check out the new hbo show true blood, which starts this week. i've also been catching up on californication. i watched the first three eps when they first aired but then got busy w/ other stuff but now i'm going through them on demand, and always find myself excited to watch more. and yay for dexter!!!

ok, i'm rambling, time for bed.

i'm tiiiiired

won a small one, but it felt good after such a tilty night.

i ran really well when we were down to 3-4 tables, and then amassed a huge stack on the money bubble and ft bubble. i run good in 50 1rs, i guess.

i'm not usually superstitious, but if i can continue to tie working out to winning tournaments my motivation to work out will keep going up.

fantasy football tilt

i did one draft last night and am pretty psyched about my team:

QB Drew Brees
WR Braylon Edwards
WR Roy Williams
RB Adrian Peterson
RB Brandon Jacobs
TE Owen Daniels
W/R Dwayne Bowe
K Stephen Gostkowski
DEF Seattle

my backups are:

j stewart
d driver
f taylor
b favre
f jones

so feeling all confident i accepted a last minute invite to another league tonight. it could not have gone worse. i was conflicted about every pick, frantically iming bayne and lucko w/ stupid questions, which i think only made it worse, and basically sucked it hard. i even tilted off my stack in the mookie (bvb went broke w/ middle pair on A high flop, oopsie) shortly after the third round, when yet another round went by where all the picks i wanted were taken right before my pick. jkdasfjklasjdfkljdsklfjdaskl

observe the difference (although keep in mind this is 12 team league unlike the other, it still blows)

QB Tony Romo
WR Steve Smith
WR Dwayne Bowe
WR Donte' Stallworth
RB Joseph Addai
RB Selvin Young
TE Antonio Gates
K Phil Dawson
DEF Tennessee

smith is out first two weeks, which i knew when i took him, but figured i was going for long haul. so my back ups in this one are

k smith
j stewart
j walker
j gage
a toomer
b favre

i need to figure out which wr i'm gonna start in place of smith, not like i have such awesome options, sigh. this league is full of hardcore guys too, apparently, but maybe someone will have a breakout year or something and i'll end up doing well.

lol, as i finished this post someone sent me a hh from another tournament, and i thought to myself, whatever happened to the 28k, did i bust? then realized that my ftp crashed about 20 min ago and i never shut it down and restarted. oops.

summer

labor day always feels like the end of summer to me, even though technically there are a few more weeks. it feels (and is) early this year, which ~ sucks.

i had an awesome holiday weekend. saw pineapple express, which was not, imo, awesome, but was also not terrible. went to a super fun housewarming, but stupidly came home and played some poker after too many glasses of sangria, and lost about a million hu matches. oops. :-) played a little poker monday, but nothing big. i also apparently got eaten alive by mosquitoes on sunday night, but did not realize until sometime late yesterday. i think i have over twenty bites below my knees on both legs. omg they itch SO BADLY.

yesterday i went to my first full college football game, and watched rutgers blow a million chances to score. it was so frustrating, i can't imagine how it felt to be a rutgers fan for the past twelve years or so when they were losing all the time! fresno state pulled it out in the second half, but hopefully rutgers will get their shit together soon!

i've got one final ff draft tonight, hopefully my internet won't fuck up again and auto pick me brees in the second round (sigh). should be able to make the mookie this week, and may play skillz tonight depending on how my draft goes.
